Phillips-Hill to Speak at YMCA’s ‘Healthy Living Day at the State Capitol’
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), who chairs the House YMCA Caucus, will be one of the guest speakers on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m. as “Healthy Living Day at the State Capitol” is recognized during a 9 a.m. news conference. The event is part of the YMCA’s campaign to develop and promote healthy living as a critical lifestyle choice.

“Over the years, the mission of the ‘Y’ has gone beyond the boundaries of a workout facility as individuals and families realize the many aspects of defining wellness,” said Phillips-Hill, who earlier this year sponsored a resolution recognizing Aug. 7-11 as “YMCA Advocacy Week” in Pennsylvania. “This is a first-time event for the YMCA as members of its staff, leaders and youth advocates will have an audience with their representatives in the state Legislature to promote the different facets of their Healthy Living initiative and the benefits realized by those who participate in it.”

“Healthy Living Day” is a joint effort between the Pennsylvania State Alliance of YMCAs, State YMCA of Pennsylvania and YMCA Center for Healthy Living.

“We will be highlighting our LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, which helps men and women who are living with, through or beyond cancer improve their overall fitness and well-being,” added David John Jr., executive director of the Pennsylvania State Alliance of YMCAs. “We appreciate Rep. Phillips-Hill helping us get the word out about a program that, since its inception, has helped more than 30,000 men and women improve their quality of life in the face of a cancer diagnosis.”

The Oct. 17 news conference is open to the public and will be held in the state Capitol Rotunda, to be followed by a Health Committee informational meeting on the YMCA’s Healthy Living programs.
